Ranking the top 10 Dallas Mavericks players of all time
9. Steve Nash (1998-2004)
Sandwiched between two stints with the Phoenix Suns were the six seasons Nash thrived in Dallas. The point guard joined the Mavs in 1998 where his career continued to start relatively slowly, as he played just 92 games his first two seasons due to the lockout and injury, averaging just over eight points and five assists. However, Nash took a major leap in 2000-01 as he improved his averages to 15.6 points and 7.3 assists. Nash would average similar assist totals while scoring nearly 18 points per game the following two seasons, becoming a two-time All-Star selection as one of the premier point guards in the game. After a final season with Dallas in 2003-04 in which he averaged nearly nine assists, Nash went on to make six All-Star appearances and win back-to-back MVPs in his second stint with the Suns. However, he was one of the players who ignited a dominant era of Mavs basketball in the 2000s, and is fifth all time in franchise history when it comes to assists with 2,919.
