Q&A with Weston goalkeeper Brady Jacobson

WESTON, Mass. — One of Weston’s finest goalies is Brady Jacobson. Brady has consistently demonstrated her exceptional abilities and is a strong leader on the field. Brady is a trustworthy, upbeat, and supportive teammate who will always make you laugh. Her infectious smile can be seen all the way to the goal and beyond. You must schedule a time to see her play if you haven’t already. Brady has taken part in the ID2 National Training Camp, is a member of the ODP Regional Team, and was named to the Dual County League Foley Division First Team All Star during her freshman year of high school. Brady’s skills both on and off the field have contributed to many victories for the Weston Wildcats.

Briefly describe your main sport(s) and any other sports, including records, wins, titles, success, or any other information that would help you as an athlete.

Brady Jacobson: I have played Weston High School Varsity soccer since freshman year. And I have played club soccer since 3rd grade. Currently I play on the ODP regional team.

What are your personal goals within your sports/ athletic dreams?

Jacobson: D1 college soccer

What is your biggest challenge in your sport, and what do you do to manage this challenge?

Jacobson: The main difficulty I have is pressure. Being the last person in the net and a keeper puts pressure on me. I am aware that I am held accountable for my mistakes, but I have learned to ignore them. Most players are unaware of how difficult it is to be in the net. I manage pressure by having consistent routines before games. I also feel less pressure when I know that I have teammates and coaches who support me and understand me.

What do you love about the sport?

Jacobson: I am competitive, I love the feeling I get when I step on the field, I forget about everything else. I enjoy diving after the ball and pushing my body toward it. Even if there is a lot of stress, I am able to handle it, and rise to the occasion.

Do you have a pregame ritual you follow?

Jacobson: I do, I like to keep what I do pregame consistent so that no bad luck is drawn by things I may do. I like to listen to the same 12 songs exactly 52 minutes before getting to the field. I get to the field an hour and a half early. Do luckily warm up with the same teammate. I also like to do things such as fist bumping the defenders and jumping twice before the first whistle.

What do you like to do outside your sport?

Jacobson: I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family, I like to ski, and I like to swim. I also enjoy hiking and swimming.

What has being a member of a team taught you?

Jacobson: Being a leader, communicating, being open to criticism, and being happy for others’ success.

Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.

Jacobson: Letting the ball right through my hands. I overcame this mistake by remembering that everyone makes mistakes, and I won’t remember it in the future.

Anything else?

Jacobson: I am really grateful that I get to play with people I don’t usually hang out with. As a result of playing with upper class men, I have learned that every game could be your last. I’ve learned to appreciate each game and let go of my mistakes. I’ve learned the value of having teammates and working as a team through soccer. Making new acquaintances has been facilitated by team bonding, seeing everyone in the halls, and I have made new friendships that I know will last a lifetime.
