Who will be Notre Dame’s starting quarterback in 2023?

Steve Angeli and Ron Powlus III

Angeli doesn’t seem like much of a threat to see the field in 2023 unless Buchner were to get injured once again and Notre Dame doesn’t bring in any kind of transfer option at quarterback. The New Jersey native was a four-star recruit coming out of high school, and does possess the kind of talent that could lead him to see the field in South Bend at some point in his college career. The 2022 redshirt freshman threw for over 1,700 yards and 15 touchdowns during his senior season at Bergen Catholic, but has not thrown a pass yet at the collegiate level. While there’s certainly upside, Angeli doesn’t figure to see all that much playing time come fall.

The same can be said for Powlus III. Another young quarterback who is from Indiana, Powlus III was an all-state player at Penn High School in 2020 following a junior season that he missed the majority of due to injury. Like Angeli, Powlus III has not thrown a collegiate pass, and although he will bring some nice camaraderie to the quarterback room in his third year in South Bend, it is highly unlikely he takes the field next year.
