Q&A with Oxford soccer player Allie Reed Greer
OXFORD, Miss. — We sat down with Oxford High School Soccer Player Allie Reed Greer to chat about her future.
Who did you sign with?
Allie Reed Greer: Northwest Community College.
When did you start playing soccer?
Greer: I started playing when I was about four. I played for APC’s rec team and I just loved it ever since.
Talk about a few of the things you excelled at on the soccer field.
Greer: Well, I started as a forward when I was younger and I did really well but then I started progressing and doing much better as an outside back. I played in multiple positions. I had to forward some last year and then I had to play center back so really just anywhere but the mid-field or goalie because I am not very good at either of those but really I started excelling as an outside back this past year and the year before that. I have been switched around a lot but that’s my most comfortable place to play.
What did Northwest recruit you to play?
Greer: Outside back.
Who recruited you for Northwest?
Greer: Coach Beattie.
Talk about Coach Beattie’s role in signing with Northwest Community College.
Greer: He’s a great coach. He has really excelled Northwest’s soccer program tremendously. They weren’t really considered a great soccer team before he coached there. He came in about two or three years ago and they have just excelled ever since. This year was the first year they went to the junior college championship and he was able to get them there. They got third overall and that was spectacular. I am excited for him to be my coach. He is a great person and a great coach in general.
Are you excited about being able to stay relatively close to home?
Greer: Yes, I am very excited. I have a younger sister who was born recently. She will be one in February. Very excited that I won’t be super far from her and my parents.
Talk about the role that Oxford High School Soccer Coach Hunter Crane had in your development.
Greer: Crane has really helped me develop as a player and had given me an open mind with how I direct people and my tone. He has really been good about helping me reach out to coaches and how to respond to them. He has also helped me to have a better attitude in general. He helped a lot with the mental part.
Talk about the city of Oxford. Did you grow up here?
Greer: Yes, I did. I have always lived here. I think it’s a great town. I like it because it is not too big and not too small. I like being in a city with a college campus. I like football games and all that kind of stuff. I like going and watching Ole Miss Soccer. I really like the whole environment of the town and how it’s kind of a snow globe town. I always like it around Christmas. I like it because it is homey.
Is your goal one day to play for Ole Miss?
Greer: Possibly. I am not sure if I want to play after community college. That’s more my deciding factor when I get there.
What do you have later in life as far as career goals?
Greer: I am looking into psychology or architecture. Those are my top two picks right now. More leaning towards architecture because I enjoy math and I am pretty good at it and I think that would be really fun to do.
Big congrats to Allie on her Northwest Community College scholarship! We are excited to see what her future holds!
