Carolina is the least likely landing spot for Ryans at this point after the two sides were unable to meet for an interview, citing logistics for the reasoning, despite the Panthers originally requesting one. Both parties could circle back later in the process which means Ryans landing in Carolina isn’t completely out of the question. However, the Panthers had a strong finish to their season – winning four of their last six games – under interim head coach Steve Wilks. Carolina and owner David Tepper could opt for another offensive-minded hire like the previously-fired Matt Rhule (which would exclude Ryans), but if the franchise wants to go for a defensive hire, it makes sense to retain Wilks rather than bring Ryans in.
