Top 5 defensive coordinator options for the Minnesota Vikings
4. Vic Fangio
While Pettine has a lot of experience, it doesn’t quite match that of Fangio, who has been coaching in the NFL since the mid 1980s. Fangio first became a defensive coordinator in the league with the Carolina Panthers in 1995, and went on to hold the same role with the Colts, Texans, 49ers and Bears before breaking into the head-coaching ranks with the Broncos. While he has always been a terrific defensive coordinator, and has continued to excel with the NFC’s top-seeded Eagles as a defensive consultant in 2022, it’s Fangio’s failed stint as the head man in Denver that seems to have some down on him recently. Similar to Pettine, the 64-year-old Fangio wouldn’t be the flashiest hire, but he could be the fresh voice the Vikings need in their locker room.
