Ranking the top 10 Los Angeles Kings players of all time
5. Wayne Gretzky, C (1988-96)
Gretzky learned that the Oilers were trying to trade him hours after winning his fourth consecutive Stanley Cup. He was able to control where he was able to go and ended up in Los Angeles. He spent eight seasons there and accumulated 672 points (539 goals and 246 assists).
He won the Hart Memorial Trophy once and the Art Ross Trophy, the award given to the player who leads the NHL in points, three times. Gretzky helped propel the Kings to their first Stanley Cup appearance in 1993 but fell to the Canadiens in five games.
His No. 99 is the only number retired league-wide.
