Dow girls soccer coach Spencer Sandow to participate in “30 Under 30” program

MIDLAND, Mich. — Midland native Spencer Sandow is part of an elite group of young soccer coaches selected to participate in the United Soccer Coaches “30 Under 30” Program for 2022-23.

Sandow, 29, head coach for the Dow High girls’ soccer program and an assistant coach for the men’s team at Northwood University, was chosen from more than 250 applicants across the country.

“Being selected into the United Soccer Coaches “30 Under 30” Program is a huge honor and I’m excited to have been picked,” Sandow says. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to continue to grow as a coach and take advantage of the resources this program provides.”

According to the United Soccer Coaches website, the “30 Under 30” Program is “a year-long education and mentorship opportunity designed to support up-and-coming members of the coaching profession who are 30 years of age or younger. The program gives participants exposure to mentorship, and the opportunity to take advantage of educational offerings, such as advanced diplomas and the United Soccer Coaches Convention.”

A graduate of Midland High School, Sandow began his collegiate career at Northwood University. He went on to play three seasons at Alma College and earn First Team All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association honors.

Sandow has been a part of the Northwood coaching staff since the summer of 2020. Prior to joining the Timberwolves, Sandow spent a season at Spring Arbor University, helping lead the men’s team to a Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference title and a spot in the NAIA Sweet 16.

He was hired as the Dow High girls’ head coach in January 2021. During Sandow’s inaugural season, Dow won its first district championship in six years. The Chargers ended the 2022 season with a Saginaw Valley Athletic Conference title, the first league championship since 2014.

A 2016 Alma alumnus with a degree in management, Sandow earned his Master of Business Administration from Lakeland University in 2018. He was an assistant soccer coach while at both schools.
