Patriot Oaks Academy boys soccer completes record-breaking season

ST. JOHNS, Fla. — “Our Goal? Stomping Yours!”  Patriot Oaks Academy, Boy’s Varsity Soccer, finished strong this fall season and had much to celebrate. Coached by one of Patriot Oak’s own middle school teachers, Mr. Saul, the season turned out to be a record-breaking season for the Team. For the past two seasons they had won only one game, but this season the tables flipped and they finished the regular season with a winning record of 7 and 3. This winning record earned them a spot in the tournament playoffs for the first time in school history and it was well earned.

While the season ended when they came up just a little short in a loss against Mill Creek Academy in the first round of playoffs, the coach and players were undoubtedly excited about the season as a whole. The parents and players agree that Mr. Saul has been instrumental in how this season played out. Mr. Saul has a reputation of being a great mentor and example to these players both on the field and in the classroom and it is said that he is the reason many new players came out this year to play soccer for POA.

Mr. Saul chose three players to captain this team, Lino Valinas, Javier Aponte and Michael Smith, all who play outside of the school team and have years of playing experience. These players were not only chosen for their experience but for how they conduct themselves on and off the field. Lino, Javier and Michael, all led by example, showing sportsmanship. dedication and always leaving it all on the field. Although Creekside HS will be gaining quite a few of our key players next year, the team is looking to remain strong and has a positive outlook on the future of this program here at Patriot Oaks.
