South Bend Adams girls swim and dive finishes second at NIC Championship

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The South Bend Adams Girls Swimming and Diving team competed in the Northern Indiana Conference Championship Meet at the Elkhart Aquatic Center. Adams performed well and finished as the runner ups in the meet with a team score of 399 points.

A new school record was set in the meet in the 200 Individual Medley. Addy Szakaly, who broke the Backstroke record earlier in the week, set the new record with a second place finish with a time of 2:11.71. Szakaly would also finish as the runner up later in the meet in the 100 Backstroke, swimming a time of 1:00.20.

Kailey Corban and Avery Curtis began the action for the day in Diving as the morning began. Corban had a strong performance that earned her a second place finish with a score of 379.20. Curtis finished in 3rd place with a score of 299.40.

Willa Kricheff had two third place finishes in the meet as well. Kricheff swam a time of 1:01.98 in the 100 Butterfly and went 1:11.86 in the 100 Breaststroke.

Elisa Nerenberg also had a 3rd place finish in the 200 Individual Medley as well with a time of 2:19.07.

All three relays for the Eagles had strong performances as well. Szakaly, Nerenberg, Kricheff, and Addison Skube finished as the runner ups in the 200 Medley Relay, finishing with a time of 1:53.87. The same four would also comprise the relay in the 400 Freestyle Relay, finishing 3rd in 3:50.58.

The NIC Championship Meet determines half of the final standings for the season for Girls Swim and Dive. With a second palace finish in the NIC Championship meet and a conference record of 10-1, Adams will finish as the NIC runner ups for the 2022-2023 season.
