Ryland Goede, Alexa Fortin take love story to Miss State

STARKVILLE, Miss. (BVM) – The story of college football player Ryland Goede and college volleyball player Alexa Fortin is like one straight out of a Hollywood rom-com. The two Georgia natives go to the big, in-state school at the University of Georgia where they both play for their respective teams. The two meet on campus and quickly fall in love. Now, the pair are taking their love to the next step, as the pair announced their joint transfer to Mississippi State University on Monday.

The engaged couple shared pictures of their visit to Mississippi State where Fortin showed off her engagement ring. Both athletes shared the news on their social media pages with Goede tweeting out the news and Fortin sharing it on her Instagram.

With the transfer, the Mississippi State Bulldogs programs will receive two highly-touted athletes. Fortin has had more success at the collegiate level so far with her best season coming this past fall. During her campaign, the senior setter was one of two Georgia players to play in all 120 of the team’s sets recording 1,438 assists, 4.41 assists and six double-doubles on the season. Fortin helped the Bulldogs go 23-8 and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament where they were beaten by eventual champion Texas.

Goede played in 11 of Georgia’s 15 games this past season as a reserve tight end. He came to the Bulldogs as a four-star recruit and a top-10 tight end nationally in the Class of 2019, though a shoulder surgery in 2020 caused him to miss that entire season. He has two years of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer.

Now the former Georgia Bulldogs will look to carry on their success and love at their new home. For Fortin, she will join a Mississippi State team that finished 15-13 last season with an 8-10 conference record. Goede meanwhile will join a Bulldogs team that finished 9-4 with a bowl victory in the ReliaQuest Bowl earlier this month.

While the two may no longer be where they fell in love, they will still be going through their athletic journeys together. Hopefully, that love and support will help the two to continue their strong collegiate careers at their new home in Starkville.
