Brighton trap team returns for third season

BRIGHTON, Colo. — Brighton High School (BHS) is proud to announce the second year and third season of the BHS Trap Team and the new development of the BHS Skeet Team under the association of the Colorado High School Clay Target League and the USA High School Clay Target League starting in March.

“Learning the trap sport I saw this as an opportunity to change my life and others. I was able to turn this desire into a full-fledged trap shooting team at my school. I couldn’t be more proud of my team’s success.” ~Nathan Duran, founding president of the BHS Trap team.

In fall 2022, BHS Trap placed first place in their conference for the state of Colorado and was recognized for the top female in the state of Colorado (Taylor Madsen), as well as second and third place female top scorers in their division (Bailey Husmann and Griffin Vanosdol).

“Being this year’s top female in the state truly felt amazing. My shooting squad always pushed me to do my best, which helped me achieve my goal of beating last season’s average,” Madsen said. “My coaches also had a huge impact on my performance and I couldn’t be more thankful to have them out on the range with me each week. I enjoy this sport so much and I can’t wait for the spring season.“

This season Brighton expects to grow the program, expanding to allow all 27J high school students to participate, and is planning on 50 or more co-ed athletes and seven coaches to participate in the league with the belief of ‘Safety, Fun and Marksmanship.’ The BHS League attracts student athletes that have earned their firearm safety certification to participate in shooting sports while creating a “virtual” competition among 35 other Colorado high school teams at no cost to the school. The league is also the safest sport in high school, with no reported injuries since the inception of the League in 2001.

“I am so humbled by the support of the Brighton community. We have been able to remove many financial barriers due to the monetary contributions from local businesses around Brighton. It’s wonderful to watch such a diverse group of students become a team and family. ‘ Head Coach Jenn Minor said.

You can find Brighton High School Trap and Skeet team at home at Colorado Clays shooting range on most Sunday afternoons.
