Meet Princeton women’s volleyball assistant coach Dominique Mason

PRINCETON, N.J. — The Princeton University Women’s Volleyball Team added Dominique Mason to their coaching staff in June 2021. She is a former college standout who is an alumna of Seton Hall University. Mason is a Chicago native who embarked on her college career at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa where she assisted the Hawks in a run that saw them finish in third place at the NJCAA National Championships in 2015.

Mason would then transfer to Seton Hall University in 2016 where she cemented her name as one of the best in this region on the court. During her career with the Pirates she achieved some major accomplishments, which include being named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll a total of four times while accumulating stats such as 509 kills, 331 digs and 62 blocks. She graduated from Seton Hall University with a bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science and a minor in Psychology.

Mason has been embraced by the Princeton community with open arms since her arrival on campus.

The Women’s Volleyball Team at Princeton University has won 18 Ivy League championships, which is more than any other team in the league as of right now. The addition of Mason will help them add more hardware to their collection. In fact, she has already done this by guiding the Tigers to another Ivy League Championship in 2022. This was accompanied by a 21-4 overall record and a 13-1 record in Ivy League Play according to Princeton University. The 2022 season was monumental for the Tigers Women’s Volleyball Team. Lindsey Kelly was named Ivy League Player of the Year, Cameron Dames Defensive Player of the Year and Lucia Scalamandre Rookie of the Year.

Fans also watched the Tigers take down in-state competition such as Rutgers of the Big Ten and Mason’s Alma Mater Seton Hall of the Big East.

Mason is a fierce competitor and a talented coach which are characteristics that landed her on the 2023 annual Watch List of Black Coaches that is released by Advancement of Blacks in Sports (ABIS). This list highlights African American coaches who are building their resumes and gaining notoriety. The coaches on the list are all African American, represent mid-major colleges, and have a profound impact on their community and industry.

During her tenure as assistant coach of the Tigers, Mason has established herself as a leader and someone who the players can rally around and look to for inspiration when challenges on the court arise. She was the type of player that was able to have a positive impact on her teammates and has had the same effect on the players who she now coaches. Mason has only been coaching for a short period of time but there is no ceiling to her potential. She is a winner who enjoys sharing her passion for the game with others while building them up to reach their full potential.

The Tigers Women’s Volleyball Team is in its offseason right now, but they look to dominate the Ivy League Conference again in the fall during their 2023 campaign.
