Meet Summerville area youth volleyball player Kenley Cowart
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — Kenley Rae Cowart (13) is an 8th grade JV volleyball player and has been playing for the Cathedral Academy Generals for the last four years. She was on the B Team for two years and then earned a spot on the JV team the last two years. When asked what she loves about her sport, Kenley says: “I love learning new skills, being with my teammates and having the ability to drive to succeed within life and in volleyball.”
Although she is just 13, Kenley is motivated and has big goals, as she shares: “My athletic dreams are to continue to play in high school and hope to get a college scholarship in Volleyball.” Playing volleyball has taught her how to be confident both on and off the court, as well as working together with her teammates to succeed.
Volleyball has also taught her how to learn from mistakes, and the value of having others encourage you. Kenley recalled a head-to-head game where her team was just one point away from winning. “The ball was out but I accidently touched the ball and it cost us the game,” she said. “Being around my team and having them cheering me up helped me overcome it.”
Over the years, Kenley’s athletic skills and great attitude have been noticed by the Generals as she has been awarded the following:
- Most Uplifting Award in 2020
- Most Improved Player in 2021
- Defensive Player of the Year in 2022
Outside of volleyball, Kenley also enjoys competing in triathlons and swim team. In her younger years, she also participated in soccer and cheerleading. When she is not playing sports, Kenley enjoys art and writing.
