Meet Wyckoff area marathon runner Amy Minatelli

WYCKOFF, N.J. — Amy Minatelli told her husband Jared that she had a bucket list item she wanted to accomplish before she turned 40 years old.

“He told me to go for it,” said Amy.

On November 6, Amy crossed off that item when she ran the New York City Marathon.

“I was part of the Tackle Kids Cancer team and ran with members of Cornerstone Christian Church,” said Amy. “We raised $25,000.”

Amy’s time was 3:57:12.

“Training for this marathon was one of the hardest thing I have done,” said Amy. “Crossing the finish line under my 4-hour goal, in less than ideal running conditions, (it was so warm) was incredibly satisfying and overwhelming.”

Her performance was aided by the sideline cheering of her children Dylan, Seth and Sydney

Amy’s pre-race training included running the streets of Wyckoff.

I would run from the Coolidge area through Midland Park to Dairy Queen as well as the hills in Sicomac area,” said Amy. “My speed workouts were in the flat Meer neighborhood.”

Amy says she enjoys running alone but was encouraged by her running teammates and inspired by her mother.

It was during college that Amy decided to follow in her mother’ Yvonne’s footsteps…correction…sneakers.

“I was a sophomore at the University of Richmond and my mom told me she was running the Wyckoff Education Foundation 5K Run,” said Amy. “I decided I wanted to try running.”

Amy began participating in 5K runs as well as the Monument Avenue 10K in Richmond.

“My mom and I ran a few half marathons together,” said Amy.

Prior to her passion for running, Amy was a member of the Eastern Christian High School soccer team. She also played softball and participated in track.

Today, her 11-year-old son Dylan is joining the family tradition and embracing running

Amy was cheered along the route by family and friends including her children Dylan, Seth and Sydney.

“Dylan and I ran the Thanksgiving Run in Glen Rock this year,” said Amy.
