1. Charles Bassey
The top-rated basketball player in the history of the Bluegrass is Bassey, a former star for Aspire Academy in Louisville. There, Bassey averaged 19.4 points, 12.8 rebounds, 3.4 blocks, 2.9 assists and 1.7 steals as a junior before eventually reclassifying into the Class of 2018. He was rated at 0.9984 by 247Sports.
Instead of joining the in-state powerhouses, Bassey decided to join Group of 5 member Western Kentucky. Bassey was a strong impact player across his three years with the Hilltoppers, averaging 15.9 points, 10.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists over 72 games, all of which he started.
The Hilltoppers star was selected in the second round, No. 53 overall, in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. To date, he has not played in an NBA game but has played for the 76er’s G-League team, the Delaware Blue Coats, and the San Antonio Spurs G-League team, the Austin Spurs. Bassey is currently a member of the Spurs organization.
