Dothan Wolves baseball prepares for new season
DOTHAN, Ala. — Experience. That is the word that best describes the Dothan Wolves Baseball Team this year. They will have 10 seniors and 15 juniors in the dugout this spring. Coach Alex Sanford is excited about the season and believes the Wolves will have success. He said, “We will have more experience this year. I expect the level of play to be much more competitive and an overall higher level.” Sanford said that they are returning all of their starters except one outfielder. Three of those starters have already signed to play college baseball. Blake Wynn will play at Wallace Community College while his teammates, Brooks Olive and Brody Lindsey have signed with Southern Union.
The Wolves are solid at Pitcher with seniors Hunter Williams, Olive, Lindsey, Max Conley, Ethan Johnston, Stokes Hallford, Hunter Whitman, and Jack Coskrey. Junior pitchers include Tucker Bryant, Haze McCorkel, Conner Cody, Evan Hamilton, Doug Cowart and Landon Jenkin. Sanford sounds very confident about his pitching staff and expects them to be successful on the mound. He mentioned that they had some big moments last year like when “Landon (Jenkins) beat Auburn when they were #1!“
Returning infielders include Whitman, Wynn, Conner Cody and Carter Davis. Hallford and Haze McCorkel are returning outfielders. Sanford expects his heavy hitters to be Wynn who was the leading hitter last year at .430, McCorkel who batted .379 as a sophomore, Davis at .376 last year, and Whitman who averaged .358 in 2022. He added that he is expecting big things out Eli Moore, Kingsley Lucas, and Tucker Watkins.
Sanford anticipates as strong, supportive culture with the team. “The players are tight knit. They can talk to each other and give each other constructive criticism. They motivate and encourage each other.” Good luck Wolves! We look forward to watching you win on the diamond!
