Meet Southlake Carroll baseball player Ben Tryon

SOUTHLAKE, Texas — Ben Tryon is just the kind of role model you tell your children to look up to. He’s as talented as he is hardworking on the baseball field, diligent and dedicated in the classroom, and consistently kind. Nationally recognized Dragon Baseball coach, Larry Vucan, is quick to sing his praises. “Throughout his 4 years at Carroll, Ben has distinguished himself not only on the field but also in the classroom and community. He was injured and missed most of the District season. When he returned, just in time for playoffs, Ben found himself at a different position and still excelled at an elite level. His ability to face adversity and not lose a step is a testament to his character and upbringing. He is a special young man,” Vucan shares.

GETTING STARTED

Ben Tryon: I started playing baseball at the age of 5 and enjoyed it from the beginning. Playing for Tim Wright from 11u – 14u sparked my interest the most, though, because of his passion for the game and how he cared about our team. Through his coaching style, he challenged us and made the game really fun.

FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME

Tryon: What I love most about baseball is the challenge that it always has to offer. Baseball is a constant struggle, and I enjoy having to solve a problem. I appreciate all the game has taught me through failure.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Tryon: I am most proud of winning the State Championship and earning a ring in 2022.

INSPIRATION

Tryon: My parents, Don and Elizabeth, are my biggest inspiration because they have always sacrificed so much for me and have been my biggest role models by showing me how to be kind to others through their actions. Never once have my parents yelled at me for a bad game or let a poor performance affect how they treated me. They know how hard I work and how hard I am on myself, which is why they are always there to pick me up during my lows and celebrate my highs. I couldn’t do it without them, and I’m fortunate to have such great parents.

RITUALS

Tryon: Before a game, I usually listen to music and make sure I put on my eyeblack and wrist tape. Also, I always have a juice box on hand…preferabbly apple juice.

PERSONAL

Tryon: Something interesting about me is that I am a Type 1 diabetic. I have lived with type one for about ten years and just like baseball, it is a constant challenge but has taught me how to persevere and I am grateful for that. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends and scrolling through Tik Tok. As for school, my favorite subject is forensics becuase I love to learn about how crimes are solved.

FUTURE GOALS

Tryon: After high school, I will continue my academics and baseball career at Dallas Baptist University where I plan to study business.
