Meet Tabernacle Christian basketball player Annie Sichting

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. — The last name of Sichting always comes with the question, “Are you related to Jerry Sichting?” In many instances, another question immediately follows the first for Annie Sichting. “Are you related to Job Sichting?” If you are from Martinsville, you are probably familiar with the Sichting name. If you are associated with Tabernacle Christian School, you realize that Annie’s older brother Job led Tabernacle to three Indiana Association of Christian School State Championships. He also scored over 1,000 points during his high school basketball career. If you are from Mooresville, you know that Annie’s dad is the pastor at Good Shepherd Baptist Church.

As a middle child in a very busy family, it would be easy for Annie to get overlooked. However, Annie Sichting is blazing her own trail in the basketball record books. Annie has been part of three Indiana Association of Christian School State Championship teams. She was recognized by both conference and state tournament officials last year. Annie was named to the Central Indiana Christian School Conference team and the Indiana Association of Christian Schools State Tournament team. This was not new territory for her. It was the second year that she earned a spot on both teams.

Annie has worked very hard to rank near the top in state scorers. She started perfecting her skills at a very young age, oftentimes going to the gym with her older brother. She was not only helping him, but she also had her own agenda – to be the best basketball player she could be. Annie also believes that God has given her the ability to play basketball and it is her responsibility to craft the God-given talent into all that He wants her to be.

Annie not only broke through the 1,000-point barrier in a January game, but she set her sights on breaking the single game scoring record as well. Her competitive drive has always compelled her to go faster and to soar higher. She burst into the 1,000-point club by scoring 51 points and led her team to victory against a tough conference opponent. Reaching the 1,000-point club was not an accomplishment that came easy. Last year’s State Championship team had two 1,000-point scorers. They distributed the ball well and were unselfish, but the number of points one can score in four quarters of basketball is limited. For Annie to be the third player to reach the 1,000-point club in just the last two years says a lot about the style of play that Coach Sichting has incorporated into the system.

Seasons are special when you achieve your goals and a game where you reach a milestone is not easily forgotten. All the accomplishments are highlights of what is poured into a high school basketball career.  Annie is not finished and hopes to add two more State Championships during her high school playing days.

Even though Annie’s last name is tied to basketball greatness, her accomplishments on the court do indeed stand alone.
