NASCAR Cup Series’ best by car number: 60-69

No. 62 (1949-present)

The No. 62 is one of the most recent on this list to make an appearance in a Cup Series race, as young up-and-comer Noah Gragson drove the No. 62 Chevrolet in his limited Cup Series action last season, earning a top-five finish in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona. Austin Hill will drive the Beard Oil Racing Chevy sporadically in 2023 including the Daytona 500. Justin Allgaier also made an appearance in the No. 62 last year following Brendan Gaughan’s use of the car in the back half of the 2010s.

However, the number’s history dates all the way back to Ed Tyson first driving it in 1949. Frankie Schneider would make the car famous nearly a decade later, taking home the No. 62’s only Cup Series win to date in 1958, a year that also saw Schneider place in the top 10 four times. Curtis Crider found the most success in the car in the early 1960s, earning seven top-five and 36 top-10 finishes. Crider also drove over 100 more races than anyone else in the number, appearing in 136 total in the No. 62.
