NASCAR Cup Series’ best by car number: 90-99

No. 96 (1951-2021)
While Richard Childress is known for his time as a race team owner, the former independent driver found a short-lived stint from 1971-75 where he took the wheel of the No. 96. With 108 races and three top-five finishes, Childress remains the most successful of the group to drive the number.
Bobby Keck, Tony Raines, Bobby Labonte, and Jeffrey Earnhardt highlight the past run of the No. 96, but only one driver has reached victory lane. Ray Elder during the 1971 and 1972 season picked up the only two wins the number has ever had. The No. 96 last took part in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2021, when a group of Parker Kligerman, Harrison Burton, Landon Cassill, and Ty Dillon split time in the car.
