Top 10 Florida HS baseball players in Class of 2023
9. Wes Mendes, LHP, Jesuit
The Jesuit left-handed pitcher has seen a steady increase on both the mound, and the plate, since his freshman season with the team. The culmination came to a breakout junior campaign where Mendes finished with a .422 batting average and a 1.16 ERA. With an impressive showing on both sides, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound left-hander helped lead the Tigers to a 5A state title win after allowing just three hits and striking out 11 in 6.2 innings in the team’s game against Eau Gallie. With hopes of a repeat performance in 2023, Mendes and his Tigers teammates have a chance at giving the program its third state championship in five seasons.
FINAL: @JesuitBaseball 5, @NaplesHS 2. A key strike em out, throw em out double play killed Naples’ momentum in the seventh, as Wes Mendes strikes out a pair in the seventh.
