Ranking the 2023 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame finalists

11. David Hixon

Hixon amassed 826 wins over 42 years as head coach of Amherst College, where he became the third coach in men’s college basketball history to surpass the 800-win mark back in 2018. The coach led the Mammoths to unprecedented success including 20 NCAA Division III national tournaments, eight conference championships, seven Final Four appearances and two national championships.

Individually, Hixon was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division III Coach of the Year twice. Though he has a great argument, when his level of competition is compared to other coaches on this list, Hixon falls just short of the others.
