Armando Bacot is ‘Mando’ in ‘Outer Banks’ season 3

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (BVM) – Armando Bacot is trying to lead the UNC Tar Heels back to the NCAA Tournament after making it to the Final Four last year. However, out on the court is not the only place you can see Bacot right now as he also appeared in the Netflix original show “Outer Banks.”

Season 3 of “Outer Banks” was released on Feb. 23 and Bacot appears in Episode 8 as “Mando,” Barracuda Mike’s bodyguard. At 6-foot-11 and 235 pounds, it’s a fitting role for Bacot who was with the cast over the summer when they were filming. Bacot went on his Instagram live while he was on set. He also talked about his experience on the show during UNC’s Summer Media Day, admitting that he might have had more than one line and about two minutes of show time if he had been able to be around more.

“I might get casted out,” Bacot said jokingly. “I shot the first day, but they wanted me to stay there for four days, but I had to go to the Kentucky Derby. I was supposed to be shooting these next three days, but we’ve got to practice. I know I’m in one episode, but I probably would have been in more if I had more time. I may shoot more. I don’t know. Netflix, they are probably pissed at me.”

However, he did say he approved of his performance when the media asked him about it following the release of Season 3.

“10 out of 10, it was solid,” Bacot said

Perhaps there will be more of “Mando” on the next season of “Outer Banks” if Bacot has more time but his short stint on the show was still received well by fans of both UNC basketball and
“Outer Banks.” The show takes place in the fictional town of Kildare in the real outer banks of North Carolina.

Two of the Netflix show’s creators, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke, are former Tar Heels and it is that connection that got the UNC center the opportunity to appear on the show. The new NIL rules also allowed Bacot to contribute to Season 3 of “Outer Banks.”

With the new season out on Netflix and many already finished binging the 10 episodes, if people want to see more of “Mando” they just have to find a Tar Heel basketball game. He’ll be out there as one of the key players for UNC.

Bacot is having a great senior season averaging 16.5 points and 10.8 rebounds for UNC. He also broke Tyler Hansbrough’s UNC career rebounding record and Billy Cunningham’s UNC career double-double record. Now, he’s trying to will the Tar Heels back into March Madness. ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi currently has UNC as his first team out, but there is still time for “Mando” to muscle his way into the big dance.
