Carson Wentz cut by Commanders; Top 5 landing spots for QB
2. New Orleans Saints
From one NFC South team to another, the Saints are in a similar position as the Buccaneers where they have very little cap space but a huge need at the quarterback position. While Andy Dalton started most of the team’s games a year ago, he didn’t impress and is a free agent. The team does have Jameis Winston on the roster, but given the lack of confidence shown in him last season, they may not want to settle for him as their starter.
This uncertainty, coupled with the fact the Saints are low in both salary cap space and draft capital, could make Wentz a more appealing prospect. Though Wentz may not be the perfect fit in the New Orleans offense, given the team’s weaponry including wide receivers Chris Olave and Michael Thomas and running back Alvin Kamara along with Swiss Army Knife Taysom Hill, Wentz could just sit in the pocket and distribute the ball to his playmakers while getting rest on a few trick plays with Hill under center. Given that he will likely have to come in on a cheap deal, Wentz would also make a cheaper option for a Saints team handcuffed by their salary cap.
