Get to know Unionville volleyball player Maddy Lowe

KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. — Maddy Lowe grew up watching her sister, Alli, play volleyball. “She started playing when I was in the first grade, and I couldn’t wait for it to be my turn to play,” she remembers.

By age 12, Maddy was playing for East Coast Power, a local club team. When she reached high school, she joined the school team and wore the number 17 like her older sister.

This past fall, Maddy finished her high school volleyball career on a high note. The Unionville High School (UHS) senior outside hitter and team captain was named Girls Volleyball Player of the Year by the Daily Local News and earned the distinction of being the only UHS volleyball player in school history to receive all-state honors three times.

This past fall, Maddy collected 251 kills, 65 aces, 202 digs, and 20 blocks. She also received All-District 1 honors for the third consecutive year as her team advanced to the PIAA 4A quarterfinals with a regular season record of 22-2.

Over her four years at UHS, the team has posted an outstanding 80-10 record. Her coach, Stephanie Smith, attributes much of that to Maddy’s presence. “A large part of our program’s success over the past few years is due to her volleyball skills and leadership, both on and off the court.”

A selfless captain, Maddy is known for celebrating her teammates’ wins and being a source of support and inspiration. From setting team and individual goals to leading pre-game dinners and locker room dance parties, Maddy is the ultimate hype person. “This year, I worked hard on vocalizing loudly on the court to celebrate and encourage everyone,” Maddy says. “It’s important as a team that we support each other.”

Maddy, who also participates in UHS’s UTHON event and is a member of FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) and Young Life, is looking forward to attending college in the fall, where she plans to pursue a degree in neuroscience on the pre-med track.
