Roller Hockey London develops area’s youth hockey players

LONDON, Ontario —

What About Roller Hockey London?

Roller Hockey London (RHL) was started 5 years ago by three friends and teammates playing for Team Canada in Inline Hockey (Eric Vardon, Sam Hill, Ryan Beliveau), all three having strong ice hockey backgrounds in Junior Hockey and NCAA and who were passionate about really establishing a solid Roller Hockey league in London. Their vision of a family-friendly inclusive organization, open to players regardless of skill level, included the philosophy that athleticism and sportsmanship would be used to teach kids and teens the value of teamwork. Whether starting out, or taking your game to the next level, Roller Hockey London has it all.

“Roller hockey is a fast-paced, free flowing game (four on four with no icing and no off-sides), so it is incredibly fun and open, with tons of puck touches for all players and is very safe and enjoyable – there is no body contact at any level including the Professional leagues,” says Ryan Beliveau Founder and director of the RHL.

Highlights with RHL

We have had several teams compete and do well on the international stage, having many of our players make Team Canada, and we are a Team Canada Inline Hockey tryout location for players in many age groups.

3 years ago, our 6U Team won Gold at the North American Roller Hockey Championships, and those players continue to represent our league and teams on every level! We are also proud to have one of the only “girls only” leagues in North America, as we’ve had a ton of Devilettes Girls Hockey players play in our league. As a Team Ontario try-out location, we send Team Ontario rep teams to compete at State Wars where teams from all over represent their Provinces, States, and Countries at every age. Our first year competing at the State Wars Championships (2022), brought home several Gold and Silver medals – a huge success seeing as it was just our first year competing in these championships!

Opportunities in the Sport

With a large college roller hockey league in the USA (National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association), where almost 300 schools compete (similar to NCAA Hockey), kids can get recruited to play college roller hockey in the States.

Players of all ages now have the opportunity to play for Team Ontario and Team Canada, and our London Armoury Rep Program provides opportunities to go to tournaments and represent London and RHL.

Supports

Roller Hockey is very affordable, costing only a fraction of what ice hockey costs to play. This allows many who cannot afford ice hockey to come out for roller hockey. We have a “Goalie Scholarship” for goalies who want to play, offering free registration and free training from our national and Team Canada goalie coaches. We can also connect players with other paths to support entering this sport.

Goals for future growth

This year will be so exciting for the growth of our league and sport overall! We have increased our community outreach efforts to reach larger and diverse demographics of families and players, and we continue to connect with new community groups as part of our Grow the Game initiative.

We are planning a tournament later this year, and the London Armoury Competitive Rep Program that we just launched last year will continue to grow. We will have two pads to operate, allowing more opportunities for more players and teams.

With the support of our Board of Directors, we are also partnering with equipment companies, events and tournaments across North America and Internationally!
