Ranking the top 10 New Jersey Devils players of all time
2. Scott Stevens, D (1991-2004)
The Washington Capitals drafted Stevens in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft with the No. 5 overall pick. After eight seasons, Stevens joined the St. Louis Blues for one season before being traded to New Jersey. He almost didn’t join the team but was named an All-Star and scored 17 goals. From that moment on, Stevens would only miss one All-Star game for the rest of his career and served as the team’s captain until his retirement. He helped the team find its identity and played a crucial role in winning three Stanley Cups.
Stevens had his No. 4 retired in 2006 and entered the Hockey Hall of Fame a year later.
