Joe Girard enters transfer portal; 5 possible landing spots
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (BVM) – Expectations have been sky high for Joseph Girard III ever since he joined the Syracuse basketball program back in 2019. Four consecutive seasons finishing in the middle of the ACC to go along with the retirement of Jim Boeheim has come with a changing future for the in-state product who is now in search of a new home.
Girard announced on Twitter that not only would he be testing the waters of the 2023 NBA Draft, the 6-foot-1 senior would also be entering the transfer portal. The move comes at an interesting time for the Syracuse program as new head coach Adrian Autry gets set to put his stamp on the team. The Orange finished 17-15 during the 2022-23 campaign and made the NCAA Tournament just once over the past four seasons.

Girard has enjoyed a productive four years with the Orange but results have not quite matched the expectations many had for the team overall. The Syracuse point guard averaged 16.4 points and three assists during the past campaign and has been one of the Orange’s top 3-point scorers during his time with the program.
After coming out of high school as the state’s all-time leader in points, Girard opted to stay in New York to play his collegiate ball. Now with an opportunity to go elsewhere, the experienced point guard will have a plethora of teams to pick from. Here are five schools that could land Girard from the portal.
