Top 10 players across all four major sports to wear 0 or 00
9. Jeffrey Leonard, San Francisco Giants (1981-88)
While Leonard didn’t start his baseball journey wearing 00, the biggest moments of his MLB career were in the number. Originally brought up with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1977, it took Leonard a few years to finally find a stable home with the Giants in 1981.
Through his first six seasons on the team, Leonard wore 20 and 26 but that changed during the 1987-88 season when he put double zeros for the first time. What happened next was just the best season of his career as Leonard earned his first All-Star selection and was named the NLCS MVP.
Leonard wore 00 for the rest of his career which consisted of three more seasons, one with the Milwaukee Brewers and two with the Seattle Mariners where he earned his second All-Star selection in 1989. He is part of the San Francisco Giants Wall of Fame.
Jeffrey Leonard, 1987 NLCS MVP, shares his memories from the series including hitting four homeruns and the infamous One Flap Down moment.
