SANTA ROSA, Calif. — A Q&A with Gavin Doig who is a track & field athlete at Cardinal Newman High School.
Years in current sport: 2
Grade/Year: Senior/2023
What are your personal goals within your sport/athletic dreams?
Gavin Doig: I’ll run track through college, and I look forward to getting a lot faster, stronger, and more competitive. Hopefully I can travel to some cool places around the country for races, and I know I’ll make a lot more memories and friendships through this sport.
What is the best piece of advice you received from a coach or mentor?
Doig: I’ve always been encouraged to have fun with my sport. If I train and work hard while enjoying myself, I know I will perform better. I take things seriously and value being happy while doing so.
What do you love about your sport?
Doig: I love sprinting because of its competitive nature. Each race is a head-to-head match against everyone in my heat, but also with myself. This really pushes me to do my best, and running a new PR always hits.
