Q&A with Healdsburg basketball player Sam Vanden Heuvel
HEALDSBURG, Calif. — A Q&A with Sam Vanden Heuvel who is a basketball player at Healdsburg High School.
Grade/Year: Senior/2023
What are your personal goals within your sport/athletic dreams?
Sam Vanden Heuvel: Playing competitive sports is something I will always love, so the dream is to play on the collegiate level. If that doesn’t happen, I know I will be plenty happy playing through intramurals and clubs.

What is the best piece of advice you received from a coach or mentor?
Vanden Heuvel: Give 100% no matter what, there’s no reason to even try if you don’t give it everything. Do or do not, there is no try.
What do you love about your sport?
Vanden Heuvel: I love the challenge, competition, the adrenaline, how nothing else matters in that moment. The culture around basketball and baseball is something I will always love.
What do you like to do outside of your sport?
Vanden Heuvel: I enjoy playing the guitar and spending time with my friends and family.
Anything else you’d like to share?
Vanden Heuvel: In sports like baseball and basketball, mistakes are very common, so it’s not necessarily overcoming such mistakes, but overcoming a fear of failure.
