Jace Posey joining TCU basketball as nation’s top high jumper
FORT WORTH, Texas (BVM) – Jace Posey, a four-star TCU Horned Frogs men’s basketball commit, appears to be a world-class high jumper – considering that he can clear over 7 feet in the high jump.
Posey is a senior at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory (Houston, TX) and owns the US No. 1 2023 season record in the high jump – thanks to a 7-foot-3 vertical jump he recorded in early March.
To put Posey’s high-flying abilities into perspective, he’s actually not too far off from Romaine Beckford, who won the men’s high jump at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in March with a jump of 7 feet-4.25 inches.
Many recall when Posey himself cleared 7 feet-4.25 inches to claim gold at the 2022 UIL 6A Outdoor Track and Field Championships. It was the third-best jump in Texas history and became the eighth-best high jump mark of all time.

Posey even matches the high jump marker of some of the best professional T&F athletes in the US. His 7 feet-4.25-inch personal record equals that of what Olympian Shelby Mcewen recently recorded. Mcewen flew to 7 feet-4.25-inches at the 2023 USATF Indoor Championships in February and won first in the event.
Regardless of Posey’s talents that could lead him to be a T&F Olympian one day – that just simply isn’t what he wants. Posey wants to be in the NBA like his father, James Posey, who won two NBA championships – one as a member of the 2006 Miami Heat and the other with the 2008 Boston Celtics.

Jace is a 6-foot-4 small forward ranked as the No. 5 player overall in Texas, No. 20 SF overall and No. 81 nationally by 247 Sports Composite. Needless to say, his high–flying abilities translate on the court. Jace scored over 1,200 points over his three-year varsity career.
“I think I’m most dangerous above the rim, getting to the rim – I feel like I’m very crafty at doing that,” Jace told Inside High School Sports.

The future looks bright regardless of the path he takes. The TCU signee chose the Horned Frogs over Arizona State, Vanderbilt, Memphis, DePaul, Texas A&M, as well as Miami which is heading into the Final Four.
Unfortunately, Jace wasn’t selected for the 2023 McDonald’s All-American Game – which he last said was a major goal of his. With high school basketball now over, Jace is eyeing the outdoor title once again and another record-breaking high jump.
