Top 5 performances at the Masters by an amateur
1. Ken Venturi, 2nd, 1956
Venturi was the first amateur to ever have two rounds in the 60s at the Masters. He also holds the record for lowest score by an amateur through the first two rounds of the Masters. Venturi shot a 66 and a 69 to finish 9-under after two days at Augusta. Unfortunately, Venturi could not keep the run going and shot a 75 and an 80 in his last two rounds. That gave Jack Burke Jr. a chance to win the Masters by one stroke, finishing 1-over while Venturi finished 2-over. Venturi was the only amateur to take second at the Masters and it is still the best performance by an amateur at Augusta.
