‘Last Chance U’ alum Rejzohn Wright signs with Panthers
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BVM) – After a successful three-year stint at Oregon State University, cornerback Rejzohn Wright will look to make his NFL dreams come true after signing as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers currently have eight corners on the roster though they notably did not use any of their five 2023 draft selections on the position.

Wright’s signing marks the completion of a long and unique journey for the defensive back to make it to the NFL. After being lightly recruited out of high school, Wright decided to join his older brother Nashon at JUCO program Laney College. His attendance at the school just so happened to coincide with the arrival of Netflix’s “Last Chance U” docuseries covering the team and Rejzohn quickly became a household name.

During his time at Laney, Rejzohn was a top performer, recording 64 total tackles, 11 passes defended, five interceptions, a forced fumble and a sack in 18 games. Following the show’s coverage, Rejzohn made his way up to Corvallis to play with the Beavers alongside his brother.

Rejzohn quickly gained trust from the Oregon State coaching staff. In three seasons with the Beavers, Rejzohn recorded 92 total tackles, 21 passes defended, four interceptions, 2.5 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and a sack. His final season may have been his best as he finished with 38 total tackles, 11 passes defended, two interceptions and a fumble recovery over 12 games, earning first-team All-Pac-12 honors.

Following his strong final campaign, many analysts expected Rejzohn to be selected in this year’s draft, much like when his brother was picked in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He was projected to be either a fifth or sixth-round selection by NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein and was listed among the top 150 2023 NFL draft prospects by ESPN’s Mel Kiper.

However, Rejzohn unexpectedly slipped out of the draft entirely. But this development was the Panthers’ gain as they signed a strong prospect despite the fact their last pick came in Round 5. Now, Rejzohn will join a highly-talented defensive backfield in Carolina with the likes of former first–round picks Jaycee Horn and CJ Henderson as well as standouts Jeremy Chinn and Vonn Bell.

Given the success he’s shown at all levels of college football and the hard work and dedication exemplified by his journey, expect Rejzohn to once again rise to the challenge of being a successful underdog. With his NFL future now set, Rejzohn is a player both Panthers fans and NFL fans should keep an eye out for this season.
