FARGO, N.D. (BVM) – Grant Nelson has entered the transfer portal after three seasons at North Dakota State. The 6-foot-11 standout is keeping his options open since he declared for the 2023 NBA Draft in April and was invited to the NBA draft combine less than two weeks later.
Nelson’s draft stock has skyrocketed this year due to his coveted skill set and versatility. At nearly 7 feet tall, Nelson averaged 17.9 points and 9.3 rebounds this past season for the Bison. The first-team All-Summit League selection would have two years of eligibility remaining but it’s unlikely he would play two more seasons of college basketball.
It’s safe to say Grant Nelson will be a hot commodity in the transfer portal.

That’s because Nelson is seen as a draftable prospect who checks in at No. 75 on The Athletic’s 2023 NBA Draft Top 100 Big Board. He could remove his name from draft consideration and return to NDSU before re-entering the draft in 2024, but Nelson could very well opt to transfer to another school to help boost his stock. The Bison star has until May 31 to withdraw from the draft and declare he’s returning to school.
With that in mind, here are five possible landing spots for Nelson after entering the transfer portal.
