Outlook for each non-1st-round QB of 2023 NFL Draft
No. 135: Aidan O’Connell, Las Vegas Raiders
O’Connell is a nice pick up for the Raiders and is likely to claim the backup job behind Jimmy Garoppolo in 2023. With how injury prone Garoppolo has proved to be, it’s quite possible O’Connell sees some game action as early as next season. Las Vegas passed on taking a quarterback early in the draft, but it may have found a diamond in the rough in the Purdue product who threw for over 7,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in his last two years with the Boilermakers. O’Connell does turn the ball over and has shown some inaccuracy at times, but the 24-year-old also has the tools needed to start games in this league. While he might not necessarily be the Raiders’ quarterback of the future, a starting chance for someone down the road is a possibility.
