4. Michael Penix, Washington

Penix was a three-star QB coming out of Tampa but has since blossomed into one of the best college quarterbacks in the country. He originally went to Indiana where he went 12-5 as a starter and threw for over 4,100 yards with 29 touchdowns. Kalen DeBoer served as the Hoosiers’ offensive coordinator and QB coach in 2019 and when he received the head coaching position at Washington, he was able to land Penix out of the transfer portal. This past season Penix was named All-Pac-12 second team.

It was no coincidence when Penix left Indiana that they dropped off significantly while Washington improved its win total by six wins from the previous season. Penix is a smart football player that seems to always make the right decisions. He only threw eight interceptions on 554 attempts last year. The biggest question mark is his health. Penix played 13 games last season, but his career high prior to that was six games.
