Ian Martinez enters portal; 5 landing spots for sixth man
2. Virginia
One of the main reasons Martinez is in the DMV area is because his dad, a former Utah assistant coach who now does personal basketball training in Virginia. Fortunately for Martinez, one of the state’s biggest basketball schools is in need of guard help.
The Cavaliers have been somewhat active in the portal adding forwards Jacob Groves and Andrew Rohde as well as center Jordan Minor. They also added point guard Dante Harris halfway through the season last year. However, Virginia could still use guard help as Kihei Clark is out of eligibility and Reece Beekman may go pro. Martinez would not only provide the Cavs with experience but is also one of those players who makes plays that don’t show up on the stat sheet, something Virginia fans love. Given his likely desire to stay close to family and the team’s need for guards, Martinez should give some attention to the Cavaliers.
