4. Scott Mitchell, QB (1987-89)
Mitchell set the standard behind center at Utah. He slung the football more than anyone before or after him, as his 1,165 career attempts are still tops in program lore. He also ranks first in career touchdown passes (69), yards passing (8,981), and 300-yard passing games (14).
His single-game performances weren’t all that bad, either, as he threw for at least five touchdowns and had 400 yards through the air three times each.
Mitchell was Dan Marino’s backup for three years after being drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 1990. He later signed with Detroit and made 71 career starts in the pros.
Happy birthday to former #Dolphins QB Scott Mitchell (55)! Mitchell was just a rookie fresh out of @Utah_Football in '90 when he was immortalized in #TecmoSuperBowl. He ended up having a 12-year career in the #NFL, playing for the #Lions, #Ravens & #Bengals. Happy birthday Scott! pic.twitter.com/6lh1ngwQhM
