Top 10 pitchers in the 2023 NCAA D-I baseball tournament
1. Paul Skenes, LSU
Lowder has a case, but Skenes has arguably been the top pitcher in college baseball throughout the entirety of the spring, and he will be the one to beat if a team wants to get past LSU to get to the College World Series. Coming into the tournament, the SEC Pitcher of the Year holds an impressive 1.89 ERA, and his 167 strikeouts are the most in the country by a wide margin. They are also the second most in a single season at LSU all time, trailing only Ben McDonald (202 in 1989). Skenes leads college baseball with a 0.79 WHIP as well, and is near the top when it comes to hits allowed per nine innings and strikeout-to-walk ratio. The former Air Force pitcher is likely to be one of the top picks in July’s MLB draft, but he will first look to lead LSU to a seventh national championship.
