Get to know Rosemount head baseball coach Chris Swansson
ROSEMOUNT, Minn. — A Q&A with Chris Swansson who is the head baseball coach at Rosemount High School.
How long have you been coaching?
Chris Swansson: I have been a varsity baseball coach for 24 years. This is my 14th year as the head baseball coach at Rosemount High School.

What is your background in this sport?
Swansson: I played high school and college baseball and have coached baseball since graduating college.
What is the biggest life lesson you’ve learned from being a coach?
Swansson: That building relationships are vital to the success of a team and the longevity of any job worth doing. If people get into coaching only to win games they will not survive very long. People will not remember your teams’ records but they will always remember how you treated them.

What are one or two things that the team does in training that are keys to their success?
Swansson: Our players love to compete with one another. We try to compete every day that we can.

How do you encourage the team after a disappointing loss?
Swansson: We don’t spend much time talking about losses. We typically talk about what we can control and what we want to learn from moving forward. We think it is important to stay focused on one pitch at a time and let the wins/losses take care of themselves.
Describe your proudest coaching moment.
Swansson: When players demonstrate vicarious joy for others success you know your group is special. Fighting the instinct to be selfish is difficult, but when a group of young men buy into the idea that the team is more important than any one individual long days’ are validated.

What legacy do you hope to leave as a coach?
Swansson: I hope players that leave Rosemount High School baseball leave the program better people than when they began.
