Paul reportedly wants to return to Phoenix if possible, but perhaps even more important than that is the fact that the Suns are also open to this possibility. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Suns and Paul are exploring multiple options, including a trade, waiving and stretching his contract over multiple years, or waiving and potentially re-signing in free agency. The latter makes the most sense if Paul is willing to take less money and Phoenix is unable to trade him. The Suns missed Paul’s leadership and presence in the Western Conference semifinals and those qualities are difficult to replace.
