Top 10 leading passers in North Carolina HS football history

4. Chazz Surratt, East Lincoln (2012-15)

Many North Carolina Tar Heels fans will recognize the name Chazz Surratt, but not because of what he did at the quarterback position. In high school, Surratt was an outstanding athlete under center as he threw for 11,657 yards and broke the state record for career total yards with 16,593 and touchdowns responsible for with 229 total scores. His stellar play earned Surratt a three-star recruit and committed to in-state UNC.

Once in Chapel Hill, Surratt’s career took an unexpected turn. After two seasons as a quarterback, including a redshirt freshman year where he started seven games and threw for 1,342 yards and scored 13 total touchdowns, Surratt transitioned to linebacker where he again became a dominant force. The new linebacker earned back-to-back All-ACC honors and was named an All-American as a senior in 2020. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft and is currently on the New York Jets roster.
