10 players most likely to win 2023 U.S. Open
5. Rory McIlroy
Everyone is well aware that McIlroy has not won a major championship since 2014, but his game is still too good to keep off of this list. McIlroy’s first major championship came at the 2011 U.S. Open where he put on a dominant performance at Congressional Country Club. After some poor results in the years to follow, the Northern Ireland native has quietly finished in the top 10 in each of the last four U.S. Open championships. McIlroy seems poised to do so again this year, particularly with how well he has played in majors as of late. Outside of a missed cut at the 2023 Masters, the 34-year-old has finished eighth or better in each major since the start of 2022. He also has claimed top 10s in his past two PGA Tour tournaments – the Memorial and the RBC Canadian Open. With the weight of the LIV Golf controversy now lifted, perhaps McIlroy will finally get another monkey off his back and claim his first major in nearly a decade.
