Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson goes viral in pre-draft interview
CHICAGO (BVM) – With plenty of media attention already underway for Chicago Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson, his walk through Broadway Street in Nashville before Wednesday night’s 2023 NHL Draft brought forth his most light-hearted interview.
“Kyle from Chicago” gave some time for a man-on-the-street interview with “PenaltyBoxRadio” who quizzed the “NHL fan” on his knowledge of the sport. The unknowing interviewer tossed a few questions out for the Chicago general manager who playfully went along with it.

Davidson, who jokingly rated his knowledge of the game with a four out of 10, was tasked with naming as many hockey players as he could in a 20-second interval. After listing off Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, the Blackhawks general manager would stick with his current organization as he went through the names of some of the team’s past greats, while even mentioning the Blackhawks’ newest arrivals.
With Davidson recalling some past Blackhawks for his viral pre-draft interview, Nick Foligno and Taylor Hall were fresh on the mind for the Chicago executive who recently acquired the pairing in a deal earlier this week with the Boston Bruins.
Playing around the idea that he was quite involved in this week’s events, Davidson was also asked about the Blackhawks’ No. 1 pick and if he thought the league “rigged” the draft for the team’s organization. The Chicago general manager gave a stark “no” before adding that he was “very confident” that it didn’t happen.
Davidson will be tasked with a busy opening night in Nashville as the team is set to use the No. 1 overall pick on projected top prospect Connor Bedard. The disappointing 2022-23 campaign for Davidson’s group has led to an interesting past few weeks for the general manager and his staff as the Chicago organization plans for a franchise–altering offseason with Bedard likely to star at the forefront.
With plenty to talk about both on and off the job, Davidson seems to be having fun with everything that’s coming at him.
