Regularly raking and redistributing the sand, as well as addressing any erosion or uneven areas, can reduce the risk of tripping or ankle injuries. To accomplish this, the league organizers will be digging the sand pits deeper and bringing in multiple truck loads of sand to create a level and consistent playing surface.

Secondly, proper boundary markings and edging between the sand and the grass should be clearly visible to minimize incidents. The city staff will be installing new sand borders and retaining walls that will serve to keep the sand from spilling out of the courts and creating large drop off from the sand to the grass which can help prevent player accidents.

Thirdly, adequate lighting is essential, especially for evening games. Illuminating the courts with sufficient and well-placed lighting fixtures reduces the risk of players stumbling or misjudging the trajectory of the ball. The process of introducing new lights started in the fall with all new LED lighting fixtures that will create a more even distribution of light across all courts.
