Yorba Linda HS opens new golf training facility
YORBA LINDA, Calif. — The recent ribbon cutting for the new Golf Training Facility, located adjacent to the baseball fields at Yorba Linda High School, was a success! With golf members, Varsity and JV coaches, the YLHS principal, vice principals, booster parents, school board representatives, and contributors to Yorba Linda Neighbors Magazine, a great crowd was gathered to celebrate on May 24th.
This beautiful facility is one of just three in southern California and the only facility in PYLUSD and the greater North Orange County.
“The golf facility has been planned for eight years, and it was rewarding to have it completed!” said Telli Chave, Booster President. “This is special and convenient for our golfers and staff because the team can practice on campus, instead of driving off campus.”
Over the last eight years, members of the booster club have worked tirelessly, to raise funds for this special training facility. The process took an incredibly long time, in part, due to Covid and getting things back up and running after the shutdown. The facility consists of three state-of-the-art hitting bays, which have ample space for players to work on both their long and short games. There is also a beautiful large putting green to work on those oh-so-precarious putting skills.
While golf is considered a quiet game, and doesn’t have the splash as some of the more popular sports of today, it is a game that can truly be played throughout one’s entire life. Skills learned here, at this level, are fundamentals that can be taken into one’s career and certainly years of recreation and enjoyment. As a wildly growing sport, this year’s golf program consists of five teams; three male and two female teams, both including JV and Varsity levels.
While the program is in the challenging, Division 2, Crestview League, they did make CIF for the second year in a row. Varsity golfers traveled to Oxnard, CA to compete with the best in the league.
“We were very proud of our team this year,” remarks Jen Anderson, VP of Media and Communications. “They worked extremely hard.”
We wish all golf team members the best as the program continues to move forward. We want to give a special send-off to senior members as they graduate and set their sights on the next level.
