HAMILTON, Ontario — Two up-and-coming skaters, Abbie Baltzer and Breken Brezden, who train at the Hamilton Skating Club, have been named to the Skate Canada 2023-2024 Next Gen Team.

The Skate Canada Next Gen Team ensures that Canada’s high-performance skaters advance at their maximum potential. As part of this team, Abbie and Breken receive development and training opportunities to further their athletic goals and to develop skills that are necessary to compete internationally.

This past weekend, members of the Next Gen Team gathered in Ottawa. The skaters competed and received valuable feedback from the panel of judges as they embark on their competitive season.

The weekend wasn’t all business. Athletes and coaches enjoyed a “Christmas in July” team banquet.

A fun team competition also took place where skaters across all disciplines performed their strongest elements to earn points and to be to crowned this year’s Next Gen Team Competition Champions.
