Westfield’s Jackson and Harrison Freed are back home in Indiana

WESTFIELD, Ind. — Jackson and Harrison Freed are back home in Westfield, Indiana, after chasing their baseball dreams. The Freed brothers both graduated from Westfield High School, playing four years of baseball there and for the Indiana Mustangs organization.

Their baseball journey began as Westfield Rocks and a visit to Roundtripper Baseball Academy at eight and six years old, respectively. Coached and trained early in their careers by Scott Shirley, a long-time member of the Roundtripper staff, he says “Both of the Freed boys were mentally strong from a young age and worked hard on every aspect of the game.”

Harrison Freed was drafted in 2019 by the San Francisco Giants in the 13th round out of Butler University and played four years in the minors as an outfielder. During his three years at Butler University, he was All-Big East first team his junior year and was named 2nd team all-American prior to being drafted as a junior.

Over his collegiate career of three years, he maintained a .315 batting average while totaling 23 home runs, 124 RBIs, and a career OPS of .921 over 128 games played. Harrison’s father Mike attributes much of his hitting success to coach Estep and his 5-Tool program at Roundtripper. Harrison is currently back home working on a finance degree from Butler University and studying for law school in the fall of 2024.

Jackson Freed played four years of varsity baseball at Franklin College where he was selected to the All-conference team his junior year, batting .328 and .611(CS) thrown out from behind the plate. During his senior season at Franklin, Jackson led his team as the starting catcher to the NCAA Regional. They lost to the eventual 2018 World Series champions Texas Tyler team.

The team went 39-5 on the season and were HCAC Conference Champions. Jackson was selected to the Conference All-Sportsmanship team. Jackson believes his 5-Tool training with coach Estep and catching work with coach Barrientos at Roundtripper prepared him well for baseball and life. He married his college sweetheart, Erica Moore, and recently moved back to Westfield. The couple are expecting their first child in January 2024.

The Freed brothers will be available for lessons this fall and winter at Roundtripper Academy in Westfield. “The biggest lessons my sons learned from Chris Estep and the staff at Roundtripper were work ethic and perseverance,” says Mike Freed. The entire family speaks of cherished memories from growing up in Westfield.
